The UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre, jointly with the
Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) of the United Republic of
Tanzania, is organizing a subregional workshop for key personnel in technical
and vocational education and training in the Southern African Development
Community (SADC): The "LLWF Workshop 2003".
This workshop is part of the Initiative “Learning for Life, Work and the
Future: Stimulating Reform in Southern Africa through Subregional
Cooperation” (LLWF) that was launched in Gaborone, Botswana, jointly by
UNESCO-UNEVOC and the Ministry of Education of Botswana, Department for
Vocational Education and Training (DVET) in the year 2000, and that has
been endorsed by the Human Resource Development Ministers at their meeting in
Mauritius in July 2002.
The LLWF Workshop 2003 will run from 24 to 26 September 2003. It will be held in English. The venue will be in Dar-Es-Salaam. The workshop will be preceded, from 22 to 23 September 2003, by a two-day moderator training for a limited number of participants. These moderators would not only serve as facilitators for group work during the workshop, but also to return to their countries with increased skills in that area.
The LLWF Workshop 2003 will provide an opportunity for members of the UNEVOC Network and other experts and stakeholders from SADC Member States to develop their collaboration in the following project areas:
The development of a quality
assurance programme.
The objective of this project is to establish quality assurance
mechanisms for TVET up to diploma level in SADC Member States.
The development of a training
programme for the unemployed and for the informal sector.
This project's objective is to develop training in entrepreneurial
skills and job creation and to make it accessible for the unemployed and
people working in the informal sector.
HIV/AIDS in TVET staff
development.
HIV/AIDS infection rates are particularly high
in the region. Due to HIV/AIDS, a still growing number of young people is
confronted with a declining number of available teaching staff. Therefore,
all participants of society - including staff and students of TVET
institutions - need to combat the further spreading of the virus. The
project will focus on several activities related to this.
Enhanced capacity of the participants in the moderator training to facilitate subregional cooperation and networking in TVET;
Developing skeletons of project proposals for joint action in selected areas of TVET
Forging partnerships across SADC countries for the implementation of these projects.
For the preparation of the workshop, a Call for Papers was disseminated widely in the SADC region. A number of papers have been received. Papers...
Since July 2003, VETA and UNESCO-UNEVOC have been working closely on the preparation of the workshop. On 31 July 2003, the Director of the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre signed the contract with VETA on the LLWF Workshop 2003. Photos
