Venue

The workshop will be held at the White Sands Hotel and Resort www.hotelwhitesands.com , a 4 Star Hotel situated in a luxurious setting. The hotel is approximately 25 km North of Dar Es Salaam at Jangwani Beach, with rooms overlooking Indian ocean, and of contemporary design influenced by the local architectural tradition. The excellent facilities include a swimming pool, health club, sauna and business centre.

Workshop Facilities

Participants are encouraged to bring materials and documents with them  to share with other participants.  Space for display will be provided.

Limited space is available to those interested in exhibiting at the conference.  Kindly inform Mrs Kindi if you wish to display materials at the exhibition, indicating the type and quantity of materials you intend to bring with you


Travelling to Dar es Salaam

All sponsored participants from the SADC Countries will be informed in due course of their travelling details.  All other participants will have to make their reservations and payments. 

Visas and Passports:  Participants are advised to make arrangement of their own visas and passports and must determine their own vaccination requirements. In case of assistance from Tanzania concerning visa, please inform the workshop organizers in Dar es Salaam Tanzania before 5th September 2003.


How to get to White Sands Hotel

On arrival at Dar  Es Salaam International Airport, after immigration and customs procedures, look for the workshop banner.  All participants from abroad whose arrival details are known will be met by workshop organizers for transfer to their hotel accommodation (White Sands Hotel).  Participants  will then proceed to register at the workshop office, which is conveniently located at the main workshop room.  They will then receive workshop package from the same office.


Accommodation, Meals, Insurance

Being a residential programme, all participants from outside Tanzania are therefore expected to stay at the White Sands Hotel.

For UNESCO sponsored invitees: Hotel reservation for all UNESCO sponsored participants will be done by the organizers.  As a sponsored participant, you will be covered by UNESCO medical and accidents insurance for necessary travel time and stay in Dar es Salaam.

For participants not sponsored by UNESCO: You may wish to take advantage of the special rates negotiated by the organizing committee in Tanzania. While the organizers will provide some meals and tea for all participants, they will not be able to cover the cost of your travel to Dar es Salaam, of accommodation and of any other of your expenses. In particular, you will be responsible for ensuring your coverage by medical and accidents insurance for necessary travel time and stay in Dar es Salaam, as the organizers will not accept liability.

Weather and Dress

The weather in Dar es Salaam is hot and humid at this time of the year.  Temperature average is 24 degree Celsius, maximum is 33 degree Celsius and minimum is 14 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity maximum is 96% and minimum is 54%.  Rainfall amount for this month is 22.7 mm;  Expected rain days during the month of September are 4 days collectively.  Surface winds expected to blow from the south to south easterly at 10 to 18 km per hour. 

Participants are advised that a jacket or a sweater may be necessary in the evenings.

Offices and workshop rooms are well air-conditioned and so a tie may be comfortable during working hours.  Long and short-sleeved shirts are equally appropriate.  Those who may stay longer and intend to visit some different places in town and outside town are advised to bring casual clothing.  Jeans and walking shoes, as well as hats for protection against the sun are recommended.  Evening outings requires one to have mosquito repellents.
